I am a Professor of Geography at Macalester College, dedicated to mentoring students to see the world through a lens of social justice. My scholarship focuses on neighborhood-scale urban development, examining how the design and management of the built environment shape the politics of belonging. I investigate how the decisions of planners and developers determine who is included or excluded by analyzing the distribution of affordable housing, the persistence of racial segregation, and the design of public spaces. Driven by the belief that research should serve the public good, I translate academic findings into actionable insights to help foster more inclusive, equitable, and resilient communities.
